Akad Nikah

My akad nikah was held on the 8th of January 2010. No question there on why I chose the date. (Refer to one of my older entries for a lil explanation). Coincidentally the date fell on a Friday, and that pretty much confirmed everything. It was the most important night of my life. It was also, the most beautiful.

Earlier in the morning, we had a simple majlis khatam Al-Quran. After that, I was getting restless and even though my relatives insisted that I rest a little bit, I was still hanging out with them in the kitchen, gossiping and munching away. It was only later, around 4 p.m. when I felt a little dizzy and there were signs of a sinus attack, that I decided to get a nap. A bride with a runny nose is not a pretty sight. Hehe. My official photographer, Ikram Ismail, came quite early to take shots of the hantaran, pelamin, room, decorations etc. I was still messy and groggy when he came knocking on my door. And so that ended my ‘nap’ and I had to get ready before my make-up artist arrived.

Sue Cantik came approximately around 5.15 p.m. I have always loved being made up and one of my favourite parts of the wedding was the make-up session. Sue is a very, very funny person and we clicked instantly. While I was in the midst of being made up, Zura from Manggis came with her crew to set up the live feed and cameras. We decided to also have live feed at home as not everyone would be able to sit in the living room to witness the akad nikah. Therefore, we’ve provided a place at the lobby for people, my friends especially, to sit and watch the akad from tv. Many people commented that it was so much better to watch tv because they could see our faces clearly as the camera memang lah zoomed to our faces kan. Haha, that’s why some of them said that they saw Zaki angkat kening lepas lafaz akad. Really? I’ve gotta check out the full video for that one. Alhamdulilah, dengan sekali lafaz, we became husband and wife.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t very fidgety or panicky as I was waiting in the room with my bridesmaids. I was very, very calm and composed. I kept asking myself (and the girls) "why am I like this? Why aren’t I nervous?" And then I figured out the answer. Simple – I was happy. I was really, really happy. I was so happy that I wasn’t even moody or serious or even tense. I was still joking with my friends. I was laughing up until the minute I was asked to walk down the stairs. Getting ready – waiting with excitement – walking into the akad nikah hall – witnessing the akad – surrounded by so many family members and good friends – everything, made the night the most beautiful night of my life. It was the moment I’ve been waiting for and it turned out so so beautiful.

In my eyes, it was perfect. Cukup sempurna. Rombongan lelaki came on time, tok kadi came on time, it didn’t rain although it drizzled a little prior to the ceremony (hujan rahmat :). After the akad nikah, we were ushered to the arch/dome/mini platform situated in the garden for a pulut kuning-cutting session. While we were at the garden, the fireworks started. It was a longggg and loud one but it was brilliant!! I love fireworks. It made the night extra special. I knew about the fireworks so there was no surprise there. The fireworks team actually did a test run on new year’s eve so that was how we spend the night. A display of fireworks at our very own front yard. But the fireworks display during my akad nikah night was on a much larger scale. It looked so good in the video. I’m beyond happy.

We had makan beradab after that. As usual, suap-suap. :) I don’t know if people noticed this but the first song played while we were having dinner was this one nice keroncong song that was so soothing...and kena dengan cuaca as at that time it was windy and breezy and the white draping was swaying from side to side. It sorta felt like a beach wedding. Maybe I over perasan or anything, you can say what you want but it felt like that to me. I noticed that moment and I was soaking in the atmosphere. I didn’t eat much of course, I was too busy looking around, enjoying the moment. I didn’t want the night to end.

But of course, it had to end. By the time my photography session ended, it was nearly 2 a.m. Penat but HAPPY, TOO HAPPY! :) It was an emotional night for me. My heart was just swelling with happiness. And when I saw your faces – yes all of you who came and all of you who helped out – it made me want to cry. As I was hugging my best friends, I was even more teary-eyed than I was masa selesai lafaz akad. I guess you guys know me better and you know everything that we both went through to get to this part...and I was just overwhelmed by everyone’s love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you again and again for sharing my special night with me. It made the night all the more special for me.

Ohh, I forgot to go into details earlier. First of all, the theme for my akad nikah was an all-white wedding. I wanted the whole place to be white because white symbolises many things. Purity, sincerity, love, kindness. The dais was done by Roll Em Production (same team as for my engagement). They started work a little over a week before the big day. They are very thorough in their work and the result is always neat and yet breathtaking enough for me, at least. All the whites really gave me a cooling and soothing effect. I felt instantly at ease at the pelamin, with not too much spotlight that would hurt the eyes and spoil the make up. My family members and friends wore shades of blue, with immediate family members wearing deep, royal blue. I love that shade of blue the most. And I’m so happy with my bridesmaids’ dresses as well. I gave them plain two-toned chiffon kain with dark blue on top and light blue at the bottom and it turned out wonderful! Thank you girls!

Secondly, my dress. It was by Cosry (again, as per my engagement). I’ve always wanted Cosry to do my wedding dresses, I don’t know why. It’s not that I’m not aware of the existence of some young, talented budding designers but once my heart is set, it’s so difficult to change my mind. I love Cosry for its fit. It fits me perfectly. Such comfort! My akad nikah dress was a long kebaya with a train. It was super heavily beaded, memang it was the heaviest baju among all. It had light blue, silver and white beads on it with stones. I think it’s important to be in love with your own baju for you to feel confident and sure of yourself. I was just so happy to wear my baju so maybe that’s why I wasn’t really nervous. Hehe. Putra (Cosry) did the matching shoes for me too.

Thirdly, my make up. As mentioned earlier, it was done by Sue Cantik. I don’t think she needs any further introduction. What can I say, I was a super happy bride! Her akad nikah make up was a little on the natural and sweet side, not so dramatic. After all, she had three nights to ‘experiment’ with my face so she decided to go for the ‘sweet’ look first. Of course, everyone wants a natural look on their akad nikah day right? I don’t know how others looked at me but I was happy with how I looked and not forgetting, my favourite hairdo! My hair was pulled up into a low bun with white roses at the back and nice fringe at the front. Satisfaction guaranteed lah with her. :)

My official photographer was Ikram Ismail, the one who came early and sangat punctual, professional. He’s a renowned wedding photographer, having taken Siti Nurhaliza’s and Erra Fazira’s wedding pictures. Initially, I wanted Kid Chan. But then I came back to reality and realized that I couldn’t afford him and decided to check out Ikram. The moment I saw his portfolio, I was sold! His style is very classic, timeless. Perhaps he’s not really suitable for those who wants to have a lot of gila-gila shots. Obviously I have not seen my pictures yet but from the little that he allowed me to see in his camera (he is very strict on this part...he said I can’t keep on seeing the pictures because it will lose its magic), I was blown away. Cantik. Sangat.

Next, Manggis for videography. Their live feed shown at the lobby was good. I was lucky because the boss himself did the shoot for my wedding. I need not say more about them because everyone knows Manggis’ videos are brilliant. I’ve always wanted Manggis. Since 2007. I saw their montage at a friend’s wedding and I was impressed. And I am not the slightest bit disappointed with their work. They’re SO good! I’ve gotta admit they’re a little expensive but with that much dedication (sampai jatuh atas stage, story later!:) and passion, they’re worth every single cent we paid them. I’ve also not seen their end product but for those who saw their montage played at my wedding reception would know just how amazing they are. I’m sure the final video would be just as amazing too.

Bilik pengantin was sponsored by Master Home (Jakel). I think they decided to sponsor because when we moved into our new place, we did curtains for the whole house with them. Plus they wanted to add bridal room decorations as part of their portfolio, so my room was their ‘guinea pig’. It turned out beautiful, of course. I wish they don’t have to take back their furniture. I want to keep ‘em all! Hehe.

Favours for akad nikah...telur pindang in a flower-shaped gold stand. I think it’s originally a candle-holder. My parents bought it at Pameran Kraftangan in KL quite some time before the wedding. The guys’ side received a bigger, taller stand. It’s always nice to give the traditional ‘bunga telur’, as in, the one with an actual egg, for akad nikah.

What else did I miss out on? Hantaran. He gave me 7 trays and I returned 9 trays. Roll Em did the hantaran for both sides. His in silver, off white and pink while mine is in white. I received a lot of nice remarks about the hantaran. Yes, I love the hantaran too. If you noticed, mine had a ‘royal queen’ feel to it as all the items were put in a crown, and the crown was supported with deep royal blue velvet pillow, on top of a tall dangling crystal stand. There were tiny crown details all over the hantaran. Crown pins/brooches, crown ring-holder, crown box etc. See, that’s what I love about Roll Em. They’re into details. Like, instead of asking me to just sit on a pillow during akad, they set up a mini white ‘stage’ for me to sit, so that I was higher than everyone else in that room. Ahh, dreamy.. :)

And one last thing, my wedding invitation card. It was made in Malaysia, and Roll Em made ‘em. I know, you’re going to have to familiarize yourself with Roll Em ‘coz you’re going to read a lot about them in the next few entries! I personally put together the card from scratch. We didn’t have a sample or anything. All I knew was that I wanted the card to look like a clutch. They came up with a few mock-ups and then we had to change the details, like the lace, the pearl button etc and voila~, my dream wedding card became a reality. There was never any uncertainty about the colour for my reception. I’ve ALWAYS wanted pink, grey and silver. See, I’m easy like that. Hehe.

I think I should stop here for my akad nikah. Let me know if I’ve missed out on any important details. Malam berinai is next!

ps: No pictures for now because it would take agesss before I get the official ones. The unofficial ones dulu boleh tak? I will try to curi-curi around ok. I promise this time I’ll have more pictures and perhaps pictures that you will never see in facebook. *wink*
