10 days after

So how’s Ramadhan treating you so far? Or how are YOU treating Ramadhan so far? As for me, Alhamdulilah, so far I have managed to fast without much problem…except that I only skipped two days. The first time I had to break fast because I was having one of my extreme headaches again (I’ve never gotten real bad headaches before but ever since I got pregnant, I’ve experienced headaches yang melampau-lampau). The second time is today! I have a sore throat and every time I swallow, yeah it hurts. I feel feverish too so before I get really sick, I better drink up lots of water. It’s a definite sign of dehydration and pregnant moms should avoid being dehydrated. Plus I don’t want to hear my husband nagging at me about it. I swear, he’s the happiest when I tell him I can’t fast. I can’t even utter a single word of complain. If I say ‘my tummy hurts a little lah’, he’d go all mak nenek on me, scolding me for not caring about the baby’s health. If it were up to him, I wouldn’t be fasting the entire month. So the moment I feel like I’m not up for it (fasting), then I’d voluntarily break fast. Terawih, Alhamdulilah, on and off. On my good days I’ll definitely join the rest but on my bad days I just have to rest and sleep early. Sleeping at 9 pm is nothing new to me since June.

I love bloggers who blog about Ramadhan food. You know, the blogger writes about what she had for buka puasa the day before and what she plans to have for buka and sahur that day. Of course, entries accompanied with the actual pictures are much appreciated! I just find it interesting to find out what others prefer to have during buka puasa. Share with me your buys at the pasar Ramadhan, I love that one too. I wish I am rajin enough to blog about my daily buka puasa dishes too. Maybe I’ll give it a try…all I have to do is snap a picture or two and describe what I had right? And let me tell you, the best buffet spread for me, is still the spread at my house! I know everyone feels the same about home-cooked meals. Kan? Nothing beats eating at home. Haih, it’s all just about food with me lately - even though I have not been eating to my maximum capacity this time around. Just last night I was having a conversation with my husband on baby names and I mentioned that one of my colleagues named her baby Hussein. I quickly said “It’s a nice classic name tapi nanti orang ingat mee Hussein pulak”. To which he replied “I was about to say macam Faizal Hussein…you ni fikir makannnnn je”. Mee Hussein is a stall operating by the roadside at USJ and it sells the meanest mee goreng mamak in Subang! *slurp* It’s not my fault that the first thing that came to my mind was mee Hussein, I mean who would’ve thought of Faizal.Hussein?

I have just realized that there are so many ladies around me that are pregnant right now and their babies are due in 2011 as well. And I’m sure there will be many more coming soon. My close friends pun dah berapa ramai, not counting the potentials, Jaja, Neesa, Bats et al. (hehe Aminnn) Oh my, cepat lah abolish UPSR and PMR. So much pressure! Hehe. I will not blog about my kids’ exam results so don’t ask. It’s an early disclaimer yeah. Ok, the point is, masih blog ke 12 years from now? Hehe. Don’t worry baby, mummy’s going to spend a fortune on your tuition fees, so that you can save mummy’s face. Hehe. Just kiddinggggg! Don’t worry, if you don’t do well, there’s always college. But really, 2011 insya Allah is going to be a year full of babies! So much fun. :)

My throat is really killing me softly, I need to rest now.

ramadhan al-mubarak!

Aren’t we all lucky? Insya Allah tomorrow we will welcome the month of Ramadhan. This year’s Ramadhan is especially meaningful for me as I will be celebrating it for the first time as a wife, a daughter in-law and a mom-to-be. As a wife, I don’t think I’ll face any problem…as he’s not fussy when it comes to food. I just need to make sure he buys a new baju melayu! He could still wear his white baju melayu kahwin but me? Out of the question. On a sad note, I don’t have any baju raya this year, I’ll need to find one off the rack. The ones I made with the designer months ago, well, it was months ago…if you get what I mean.

As a daughter in-law, we’ll be celebrating the first few days of Ramadhan at my in-laws’ place. That’s his wish so as an obedient wife I just agreed. Ok, ikhlas ke? Hehe. Don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I’m a little sad that I’ll be away from MY family on the first day of Ramadhan. You know how super attached I am with my family. So truthfully, it is going to be a little emotional for me. Plus I have to be at my best behaviour, which is difficult for me to do during the fasting month as I am as childish as it gets when it comes to breaking fast. I can’t exactly cedok the rice and put all the lauk siap-siap, 15 minutes before buka puasa so that right after I say ‘amin’ to the doa makan I can attack my plate while others waste time passing around the dishes…it’s all about proper planning. And I can’t sit at the table and stare at the food…no, I will have to act nonchalant about breaking fast, like it’s not a big deal for me, like I’m one strong person, like I can just have a piece of kurma and pray first then eat later. Huwaaa. Because I am always ready at the table before buka puasa, once I accidentally drank half a glass of water. I don’t want that to happen. So I will miss that ‘thrill’…at least for the first few days of Ramadhan.

But I am a rationale, considerate and understanding person, EHEM, oh not forgetting, I’m also an adult. Last year he was at perantauan ie Kedah so it wasn’t a very nice Ramadhan for him. This year, I should make him happy and I should make up for what he had to go through last year. I’ll save my drama for some other time. Time raya ke? Oh my, talking about raya, we haven’t finalized how this year’s Raya’s going to be like! I need a strategy and a strong proposal paper!

And last but not least, as a mummy-to-be, I reallyyyyyyy hope that I’ll get to fast as per normal this year. So that I won’t have to ganti puasa at all! Please give me strength God I really want to do this. I was skeptical at first, but then I’ve heard lots of encouraging stories from my colleagues and I’m determined to try my best to fast. But if I can’t, I won’t force myself. I’ve made a promise to my husband not to over-exert myself because he’s really worried about the baby not getting enough food, nutrients and all. Plus I’m still not a big fan of dinner time, so can I manage to eat well during buka? I hope so. If we really want to do it, I think God will pave an easy road for us. Insya Allah. So let’s give it a try. I’ll let you know if I manage to do it or not.

Have a wonderful Ramadhan!

point form

- My BB is still alien to me. My ringtone is still one of those standard ringtones that are automatically installed in your phone. And it sounds like a cross between an Arabic and Indian song. Not that it’s a bad thing, if it’s a proper padang pasir song but this one, I don’t know…it’s just weird and every time my phone rings my family will give me this ‘look’. Ok so yes it is a bit embarrassing. And the easiest thing to do is to just choose another ringtone right? It might sound easy for you but it’s not for Miss-Lazybum Me. I can’t even find a miniscule amount of effort to actually look through the selection and pick a better, less-embarrassing one. Can somebody do me a favour and send me a song or something?

And the other thing I’m not used to is the trackpad or scroll pad or whatever it is you call that thing in the middle. Maybe I don’t have a delicate thumb but I find that I would usually over-scroll. Especially when I’m browsing my FB page. On many occasions, I have accidentally clicked ‘like this’ without even liking the post or the picture. I can’t even remember how many times I had to ‘unlike this’. Oh God, I must’ve looked like a terrible friend. Liking something and then suddenly unliking it. But some of the status updates, pictures and what-nots are not meant to be liked. I hope I will get the hang of it really soon because I don’t want to end up liking somebody’s death news or somebody’s misfortune. So if you see me liking something inappropriate, please forgive me. I promise I’ll be extra careful next time.

- One of my pet peeves is people who take forever to order at a fast food counter. It is especially unbearable if there is long queue. Look, you’ve been queuing up in front of me for like, 10 minutes already. Surely while queuing up you would have thought of what to order. So why do you go blank when you reach the counter? Nervous? I hear a lot of umms, ahhs, errs, hmm what shall I have for today? More hmmms. Worst still, if that’s the time you decide to shout at your friend who is seated at the table asking him what he wants. And then your friend wobbles to the counter to peer at the menu on the wall and says ‘apa-apa lah’. It takes up EVERYBODY’s time. I know it’s not just a burger as eating out at fast food outlets is a luxury to a LOT of people. I understand that. So I’m not going to say ‘just order something!’. But I would expect a little ‘developed-country’ mentality among all of us (even if we are still a developing country). Baby steps, people. And the baby steps can begin at fast food outlets. So just use the long wait as the time for you to think thoroughly on what you would like to have for lunch and just walk up confidently to the girl behind the counter and say ‘Set number four, medium, Coke, take away please’ effortlessly. :) Hehe. And don’t panic when the girl offers to upgrade your meal for just RM1 only or whether you’d like to have a chocolate sundae. Your entire life doesn’t have to change, you can just say no, thank you. So all the “abang nak apa, adik nak apa, kakak nak apa” questions can be sorted out before you line up or as you wait in the line please.

- Last night as I was spending time with Dani, my nephew, on his bed, he took off his pacifier and said ‘Yaya’ and smiled. And then he put the pacifier back in his mouth. (He was about to go to sleep) I’m sure you know the joy when you hear your nephew or niece calling your name. I would go weak in the knees every time he calls me. Itu baru nephew. I’m imagining what it feels like to have my own child calling me whatever I decide he or she should call me. I’m sure I would cry! Already I’m going gaga over everything that Dani does; I can’t imagine how obsessed I would be with my own child. Can you?

- Have a nice weekend. Don’t wake up early like me and live with regret on Monday.

wonder how i look like now?
