What I’m really trying to say is…from zero to a few (baju raya). Yeay. Raya is just a few days away and suddenly I have a few new clothes to wear! So double yeay to me! I think I already wrote about not having anything new to wear this year…but maybe I haven’t, I’m not sure, I’m pretty forgetful these days. Not mentioning the fact that I have turned a little deaf as well, always mishearing words spoken. Anywayyyy, initially I decided not to buy anything new as I could just wear whatever I have in my closet – clothes that I have worn only once or never worn before. I know, clothes that I have never worn before can be considered as ‘new’ but since it wasn’t bought FOR this year’s Hari Raya, thus it cannot be counted as a ‘baju raya’ for me. That’s my interpretation of baju raya ok. If you remember, I told you that I sent some materials to a designer months ago and I wanted to wear them for Raya. The clothes are ready. But I can’t zip it up. So you don’t expect me to wear a bare-back dress on Hari Raya right? That’s how I became baju raya-less. I rummaged through my closet, eliminated all the ready made kebayas I bought from Medan, chucked out anything remotely kebaya-like, scanned through my kaftans and kurungs and made a mental list of all the things that I could still wear. I discovered that I have worn all my kaftans only once. I am ashamed of myself. So, being the new and improved person that I think I am, I decided to wear ‘em all again for this year’s raya. That gives me about 6 kaftans/kaftan-like tops and 2 kurungs to wear. All non brand-new. :) I found so many clothes that I like at my favourite booth in Parade and contemplated for a long long time on whether I should get it or not and in the end I didn’t get it. We have even bought my husband’s baju to match with the kurung that I’m going to wear on the first day of Raya so there’s no point searching for a different baju.
But then a miracle happened. Hehe. My mom bought all her female siblings new clothes and she bought one for me too! Now, I can officially say that I have a baju raya! Even though I won’t be wearing it on the first day itself. It’s just a simple baju but it is NEW and it is for raya so it fits my interpretation perfectly. Besides that, I have also recently learned that if I mix and match my modern and traditional clothes correctly, it can be turned into a dress/jubah/kaftan/kurung. It’s a great alternative and widens my option. Since I didn’t spend on any clothes this year, I think I’m going to buy myself a few pairs of shoes. I need practical shoes as I’m not allowed to wear heels anymore. Other than that, I’m all set to rock this year’s Raya. In short, this lady is happy and excited to be celebrating her first raya as a wife and mommy-to-be! I can’t wait. Alhamdulilah. :)
