Ahh, it's that time of the year! For the last 4-5 years, this particular time of the semester will be intense. Not extremely stressful just...uncomfortable. Haha. Boleh describe feeling nak exam as uncomfortable? Oh, I forgot to note that for this year's raya I had the most peaceful mind I've ever had in years! That's only because previously, final exams will be right after raya and the week long raya break will be fully utilised to worry. Yes, to worry, not to revise just yet. So now that I don't have to sit for a final exam for the rest of my life, I feel free! But I will miss the exhilaration of having completed a final exam...and the satisfaction that one gets when the results are out! Obviously I won't miss the occasional dissatisfactions and unfairness and what-nots lah kan. Haih, rindu pula that yellow exam slip, which I forgot to bring the first time we sat for a final exam paper in pre-law. Insaf terus after that. :)
I didn't study every day. Yes, contrary to popular belief, and despite the various 'nicknames' given by some friends, I did not study on a daily basis. People have asked me that before and when I answered them, mula lah tak percaya and accuse me of trying to play it coy, or trying to pretend. I don't mind "sharing" whatever tips that you guys think I have...but you must believe me and well, try it yourself! Haha. Ok, throughout the years, I would make it a point to always, always, always attend lectures and tutorials. Just don't skip classes unnecessarily. This is because, the only way I'd understand something is by listening to the lecturer and taking down my own notes based on my understanding. The trick is to understand a particular topic on that very same day - the day of the lecture - in class. Ask questions if you don't understand, or discuss it with your lecturer but try as much as possible to understand the topic, to understand the principles and the significance of the cases immediately. When I say immediately, you should try to understand it within a week. If you don't understand that day's lecture, don't leave it at that. Try to understand. Read up a little (if you must). So that the week after, when a new topic is introduced, you would have at least understood what was taught the previous week. It makes life a lot easier and simpler. It would be a problem if you wait until the end of the semester or until the study break to attempt to understand the topics. By that time, it would be a little too late kot. Sepatutnya masa study break or in between papers tu is the time for you to merely revise and memorise the cases, not for you to read things that are alien to you. That's why I relied on my notes as if my life depended on it. Because the notes were done at the time of the lecture (not later, not at home, not during the study break) and it gave the best picture of how I understood things at the time of lecture. Reference books memang for reference only. You cannot rely on it to make you understand something. You have to understand it based on your own words. The people who photocopied my notes pun tak faham the topics because I wrote for my understanding. So it doesn't matter la incomplete sentences ke, bahasa pasar ke, tiba-tiba ada love notes ke or jokes. Sometimes I made fun of my own sentences with scribbles. So, jadi best nak baca notes tu balik kan? And cases, I only read the significant ones but if I have the time, I'd read up lah mana-mana yang macam best. But the bottom line is, I cannot live without going out and having fun and shopping. So I cannot not have a life and devote my time to studying.
Ok so I was a little busy during LL.B but that did not stop me from doing the things that I love. Hmm, actually I was pretty lazy masa LL.B. I have never stayed back 'til late at night. The latest pun 9-10 tapi itu pun because ada class. Weekends lagi jangan harap. Hehe. Hmm, I wonder how did we survive?? Masa Hons. part 1 ada la a few weekends we had to do our CTA. But Hons. part 2, huhhhhh zero!! Hehe. Maybe one Saturday morning la max, kalau ada pun. Weird but we made it. I think for me, it's about proper time management and knowing what exactly to do. Because sometimes you'd end up wasting time doing things that are not required. My firm is usually pretty straight forward, no frills, and we keep it simple. And we work pretty fast too. I guess a person has his or her own way of studying. So whatever works for you, keep it up! And if you're a junior and is clueless on how to read law, I hope by sharing the 'tips' (as above) would help! :)
My boyfriend's sitting for his final exam, so I have lots and lots of sympathy for him...because I can go out and have fun on weekends and he can't! But then later when he's on that longggg break I'm sure to be jealous of all his free time - on weekends and weekdays too. Hmph.
Wow, what a long post!
