Day Two started out with breakfast at the hotel. Oh nyummy! I loveeee hotel breakfast. That’s one of the things I look forward to whenever I stay in hotels. Even if I was overseas and I know that all I could eat would be bread, I’d still look forward to it. The hotel’s breakfast spread was very satisfactory. I tried its chicken garlic rice (or something like that) and I was sold! So sedap.
After breakfast, we went to Pasar Ikan. Yes, don’t be skeptical like me. I was worried too, like why would I want to go to a fish market in Medan when I have a perfectly clean fish market a stone’s throw away from my house and I don’t even go there? The market actually sells materials, telekung and the likes of it. Again, I didn’t really shop a lot here because I wasn’t looking for materials. Plus, it’s nothing like Bandung and Jakarta. In Jakarta I bought quite a number of kebayas but in Medan, you can hardly find ready-made kebaya. Or at least I didn’t see any. Nevertheless I bought two lace materials and a sarong. That was it.
…until I went to our next stop, upon my request, Danar Hadi. I have been to the one in Bandung and Jakarta and bought some stuff from there so I know that the quality is good and the designs are more modern. The rest of the group did not join my family at Danar Hadi, they went to Medan Mall again to continue where they left off the night before. I was quite disappointed with the boutique’s selection because it didn’t stock many of the designs that can be found in Bandung or Jakarta. But there was still something for everyone and I bought four tops. I knew that it wouldn’t be cheap and I was right. Sigh.
For lunch, we stopped by Sun Plaza, another shopping mall in Medan. It was better than Medan Mall, it’s more like, Sunway Pyramid before the extensive renovation. We walked around a bit, looking for ‘unique’ things to buy and we stumbled upon Prestige by Inar’s boutique. Ready-made kebayas for about RM300. Okay lah. I was, as usual, restricted by the lack of small sizes but I found a few in my size that I liked and bought it. And it was only later that I realized that I bought three items in soft pink. I have an extra of three pink items in my closet now, on top of my already extensive collection of pink clothes, so if you see me wearing pink pink pink, don’t be rude and assume that I’m wearing the same top over and over again. Look closely. It’s different.
The ladies were pretty satisfied with their purchases but the boys wanted more, because they didn’t get to buy anything at the Plaza. So, the car dropped us off at the hotel while the boys continued their shopping, where else, but at the Fashion Outlet. Gila lah. Between them, the total number of t-shirts amounted to 30 or more. I decided to head back to the hotel to try out the spa. Even though the spa is part of the hotel, but it was super duper cheap! RM35 for an hour of traditional massage! So I had one session (even though I was craving for more!) and then I had to get ready for a company dinner.
That night we had dinner at the hotel as it was meant to be a dinner where the company awards its staff for their achievements throughout the year. Like our APC. The theme was ‘Jawa’ and I brought my clothes from home, unlike the rest of them who decided to buy their dinner clothes at Medan itself. Well, it wasn’t a formal dinner pun, it was just like a makan-makan session with lucky draws, awards and poco-poco.
That’s the end of Day Two. Still no sightseeing.
